I don’t know how much of a difference it makes.....but the people with the GT that day had no intention of setting a lap record. If they were trying for it the car would have been faster

I wager that if Ford was trying to set a record they would go at least 3 seconds faster, if not closer to 5. Rubbered in track, empty gas tank, brand new tires, lightweight package car, tuned setup, all things they didn’t have on their laps that they would do if they were actually going for a record.

Yeah they know the car can go faster cuz all the factors you listed. Not saying the Vette isn’t fast but the GT realisticly wasn’t trying.

On one hand, maybe, on the other the tires were probably pre-heated and the supercharger works more efficiently with colder air.

I think that what really matters to Ford in terms of the GT is how fast it appreciates over time and not how fast it takes a circuit.

To be fair I believe the lap above was done by a development engineer when they were doing testing and the ford lap that’s being compared was done by one of drivers for their race team. Also one car is a purpose built racing machine and the other is based off a car your 80 year old neighbor buys new every 2 years to make runs to breakfast every other morning.

The corvette wasn’t trying ether. Thats why is was driven by a engineer vs the ford witch had a race car driver behind the wheel.
